Fremantle trying to part ways with Bennell: McClure

2018-10-09T09:10+11:00

Speaking on NAB AFL Trade Radio, Sam McClure has reported that the Fremantle Footbll Club are looking to part ways with former number 2 pick Harley Bennell.

This comes after recently signing a one-year contract extension with the club, a show of faith by coach Ross Lyon that the injury-prone 26-year-old could return to his electrifying best.

"I can tell you this morning that Fremantle, as we go to air today, are trying to break its contract with Harley Bennell," said McClure.

"They are trying to move him on from the club despite, only weeks ago, handing Harley Bennell a one-year contract extension."

"My understanding is that Peter Bell is trying to move on Harley Bennell.

"There would have to be some kind of financial resolution if they can't find another club to trade for Harley Bennell. My understanding is over the weekend Fremantle have been looking for other clubs."

"There's been no incident?" queried Nick Dal Santo.

"Not that I'm aware of," responded McClure.

Bennell has only managed two senior games since joining Fremantle at the end of 2015.
