NAB AFL Trade Radio’s Sam McClure has revealed the details behind Dylan Shiel’s decision to nominate Essendon as his club of choice.
Shiel, 25, has requested a trade to the Bombers after being linked with a host of Victorian clubs.
McClure says the deal to bring the GWS star to Windy Hill was the lowest from a financial perspective, and that Shiel became Essendon's primary target after Gold Coast categorically ruled out the idea of trading midfielder Jack Martin.
“Everything changed yesterday when they (Essendon) were told categorically by the Gold Coast Suns that they would not be dealing for Jack Martin,” McClure told SEN Afternoons.
“Essendon went back in for Dylan Shiel and they went very hard and it sort of came from the clouds a little bit.

“Hawthorn were very much leading the race up until very recently; that was my understanding that it was Dylan’s preferred destination.

“He’s got to be respected for picking the deal of the four that is financially significantly the lowest. He’s gone there for his footy, certainly not for coin.
“It’s going to be six or seven years, it’s not going to be near a million dollars, which was the offer from the other three clubs.
“The Giants will quite rightly demand pick nine and next year’s future first round pick from the Bombers.”
