A-League expansion set to be delayed: Davutovic

2018-10-15T17:43+11:00

Herald Sun chief football writer David Davutovic says the announcement of the two new A-League expansion licences is set to be delayed.

The successful bids were scheduled to be revealed on October 31st, but Davutovic states the bitter congress dispute between the FFA, A-League clubs and State Federations now means the initial date could be postponed a few months.

“The mail at the moment is that they will delay an announcement on expansion,” Davutovic told SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“Initially it was supposed to be announced at the end of this month with a view to bringing the two new teams in for the 2019/2020 season.

“I reckon they’ll probably delay the announcement by a few months because of this whole political upheaval, it will take a few months for everything to sort itself out and then the new teams will come in in 2020.”

FFA CEO David Gallop hinted on SEN Breakfast last Friday that the announcement of the two expansion clubs could be pushed back due to the long-running congress saga.
