Manager provides Bennell Dockers update

2018-10-17T08:29+11:00

AFL player manager Colin Young has provided an update on Fremantle’s Harley Bennell, stating on SEN Breakfast that new footy manager Peter Bell has given Bennell one more chance to prove himself to the club.

Bennell made his name as an elite talent during his time at Gold Coast, but since joining the Dockers in 2017, he has only managed two games with a mix of injuries and off field issues costing him game time.

“He did have a meeting with the club,” said Young.

“Harley knows exactly what he has to do next year to get back to becoming an elite player.

“Peter (Bell) was reinforcing that if he has one hiccup, he’ll be out of the club so basically that’s the truth of the matter.

“Harley will be doing his best to stay committed to his fitness regime and try to be an elite player next season."

Amid rumours that Bell was looking to get out of Bennell’s contract and potentially move him to another club, Young says it would be ‘ridiculous’ for someone to pick him up after only playing two games in two years.

“We did have a conversation with the club about seven or eight weeks out about where he sat,” said Young.

“We weren’t too sure whether the way he was being rehabbed was the correct procedure so there was questions asked.

“He’s definitely required, there was no talks and even if there was talks, it would be ridiculous for a club to pick him up having played just two games in two years.”
