Beams could be Pies premiership difference: Sheahan

2018-10-18T08:41+11:00

Mike Sheahan has heaped praise on Collingwood recruit Dayne Beams, saying he would be in the top 10 if he was making a top 50 AFL players list.

Beams’ return to the Magpies was confirmed yesterday, with the 2018 runners-up eventually coughing up a pair of first-round picks to secure his services.

According to Sheahan, Beams’ talent could be enough to enable Collingwood to make the next step.

“They would have won the premiership, Collingwood, if Dayne Beams played,” Sheahan told SEN Breakfast.

“If I were doing a top 50 today for next year, Beams would be in the top 10. For all the blokes who have swapped places, he is the only one who would be in the top 10.

“I think he is as accomplished as any midfielder in the competition.

“He is Steele Sidebottom but slightly better in my view. He is a superb player.

“I wanted Brisbane to fight to hold him because he could be the difference between Brisbane making the eight and not.”
