Ryan Burton’s manager Marty Pask says his client is excited about the opportunity to play for the club he supported as a boy - Port Adelaide.
Burton, 21, departed Hawthorn as part of the trade that involved Power star Chad Wigard, despite being contracted until the end of 2020.
After coming to terms with the Hawks' decision to place him on the trade table, the young defender is happy to be returning to his native state of South Australia, according to Pask.

“Hawthorn had a preparedness for Ryan to potentially look at some options and one of those being Port Adelaide,” Pask told SEN’s KB and The Doc.
“Port Adelaide came and obviously presented something that Ryan - being a supporter as a kid – would be excited to look at and consider.
“Six days later, we’ve got to a point where Ryan’s really excited about joining the Port Adelaide footy club.
“He barracked for the club as a kid, so once the initial shock and you start looking at it and going through the process, it quickly turned to excitement.”
Burton played 47 games for the brown and gold and was the runner-up in last year’s NAB Rising Star Award.
