The message Hogan delivered to Goodwin before trade

2018-10-18T08:15+11:00

Jesse Hogan told Simon Goodwin if the Melbourne Football Club was in Perth, he would stay there, such is his love for the Demons.

Hogan’s wish to return home to Perth was granted yesterday, as he was sent to Fremantle.

However, Demons footy boss Josh Mahoney has explained how much Hogan loves his now former club, plus provided an insight into how the whole trade occurred.

“The first discussion was probably the meeting at the end of the season and the follow-up meeting just with Simon and Jesse,” Mahoney told SEN Breakfast.

“Jesse has been through a lot as a person, he came to the club as a 17-year-old.

“He has been away from Perth now for six years, it has been well documented his own personal issues he has had through that period of time and we felt like it was the right thing to do, for what he has done for our footy club and at his age, that we had to at least explore it.

“He was very upfront with Goody and said to him in the end, I love Melbourne footy club, if the Melbourne Football Club was in Perth, I would stay here for life, but if you can get me back to Perth, that would be great.

“We said we will be open-minded, we will do the best thing we can, if we can get you back to Perth we will, but it needs to be a good deal for us.

“In the end, we walk away happy with the result and Jesse is very happy in my discussions with him since.”

Mahoney also said Melbourne was always open-minded in negotiations with the Dockers, despite Freo putting out a controversial statement last week, saying they were done with the due diligence process with Hogan.
