Strong end to season sealed Lonie contract extension: Lethlean

2018-10-18T15:35+11:00

St Kilda GM of Football Simon Lethlean says a strong finish to the season was a determining factor behind the re-signing of small forward Jack Lonie.

Lonie has quashed speculation of a potential departure from Moorabbin by penning a two-year contract extension.

Impressive late season form exemplified that the 22-year-old is heading in the right direction with his football, according to Lethlean.

“It’s a great result (Lonie re-signing),” Lethlean told SEN Afternoons.

“Jack’s been at the club for four years, he’s a really well liked player, he’s great for the culture of the place but also I think his last six-seven weeks really showed that he developed and was starting to impact games.

“He kicked 11 goals in the last five weeks, so he’s on the right path and we were keen to keep him in the program, so it’s been a good result for him and the club.”

Debuting in 2015, Lonie has played 50 games for the Saints, booting 44 goals.
