Giants still likely to bring Mumford back: Niall

2018-10-24T07:00+11:00

The Age’s Jake Niall still thinks Greater Western Sydney will bring Shane Mumford back as a player, despite a video surfacing showing the former ruckman snorting white powder.

The Giants released a statement yesterday saying they’re aware of the video and are dealing with the matter.

It was revealed last month GWS were considering re-signing Mumford as a player, a plan Niall still thinks will likely happen.

“The Giants learnt about this I believe on Sunday and went to Shane Mumford and obviously discussed what had happened with him,” Niall told SEN Breakfast.

“I think initially he had to recollect exactly when this occurred and it was three years ago, after the Giants had played Collingwood in Melbourne, I think that was Round 11.

“At some time, some weeks after that, he was down in Melbourne, his season had ended. The incident that we have seen that went sort of viral I suppose on the internet forced the club to go public but the club had been dealing with Shane Mumford, they were ready for this, they were dealing with him since Sunday.

“They were ready and the info I have is it’s more likely that they will go ahead with their plan to bring him back as a player.

“I think his track record and the situation the club is in and the amount of work they’ve done, it looks like they’ll go with what they’ve initially planned.”
