Melbourne's "unreal list" persuaded May to leave struggling Suns

2018-10-23T11:20+11:00

Melbourne recruit Steven May says the opportunity to play finals and be part of a successful team was an opportunity that was too good to turn down.

May, 26, joined the Demons on deadline day of the trade period along with Gold Coast teammate Kade Kolodjashnij in exchange for pick six.

The defender is looking forward to integrating into the Dees’ back six with the hope of taking the club to greater heights in 2019.

“They’ve got an unreal list; a really good young list so I want to be here for sustained success, I don’t want to just be here for a couple of years,” May said.

“Playing in front of big crowds and to join a big club, it’s a dream come true. It was too good of an opportunity not to pursue.

“The opportunity to play finals with the Demons is the most exciting carrot. There’s no doubt they had a really good year this year and they want to go one step further.

“Watching them this year – particularly their backline and the depth they have there – it’s exciting and I feel we can form a really strong backline.”

May played 123 games for Suns and skippered the expansion club in 2018.
