Menzel deserves another opportunity: Dal Santo

2018-10-25T07:47+11:00

Three-time All-Australian Nick Dal Santo says delisted Geelong forward Dan Menzel deserves another chance at AFL level.

Despite finishing second in the Cats’ goal kicking this season, and third in 2017 and 2016, Menzel was cut by the club, with many believing his lack of forward pressure negated his scoring ability.

However, Dal Santo thinks Menzel’s goal sense and talents justify him getting another chance in a new system.

“For a man who has delivered 27, 40 and 33 goals in the last three years, I think you can accept as long as he is trying that defensive part,” Dal Santo told SEN Breakfast.

“I think he will get another opportunity, he deserves another opportunity, just at the right club in the right format.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“I completely understand the perspective or the commentary on his lack of defensive pressure, I feel like the general public have jumped on board and keep hounding him about his lack of defensive pressure.

“I’m a fan of Dan Menzel.”

Menzel played just 13 games this season, after a troublesome injection in his groin early in the campaign.

He was averaging two goals per game early in the season before the incident.
