Ireland explains reasoning behind Swans’ quiet trade period

2018-10-31T08:20+11:00

Outgoing Sydney CEO Andrew Ireland is content with the Swans’ relatively quiet trade period, saying they didn’t want to rush into any poor decisions.

The Swans saw Dan Hannebery, Gary Rohan and Nic Newman depart the club, bringing in Ryan Clarke and Jackson Thurlow as reinforcements.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“We said the last thing we need to be doing is to be rushing out into the market trying to do something because people perceive you need to do something,” Ireland told SEN Breakfast.

“We were really pleased with how the team went this year, we were disappointed how we finished the year but I think we had the best performance against all the other top eight teams.

“We beat every team in the eight other than Richmond.”

Ireland also added the club was able to build a war chest of draft points, which he hopes will help them acquire father-son talent Nick Blakey.
