Lyon baffled by Gold Coast list management decisions

2018-11-01T07:46+11:00

Garry Lyon has taken aim at the Gold Coast Suns for delisting Jarryd Lyons, given the make-up of their team.

The club yesterday chose to cut the inside midfielder and allowed him to join crosstown rivals Brisbane on a three-year deal.

Lyon looked to the Suns’ off-season moves and is confused at how they could come to this decision.

“The Gold Coast Suns have a list that is skinny and light-on for experience and, let’s be honest, talent,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“The AFL tells Gold Coast they’re going to give them priority access to state league players.

“Then they’ve recruited Corey Ellis, Anthony Miles and George Horlin-Smith and that has led them to say they’ve really strengthened their midfield.

“Are any of those three players any better than Jarryd Lyons?

“They’ve lost their senior players, Jarryd Lyons performs when he plays week in week out, he finds the footy, his clearance numbers are great, his disposal is great.

“He’s got the ability to do things that are highly regarded in footy.

“The team that’s second on my hype ladder said he’s worth a three-year deal, while the team 18th on my hype ladder said out you go.”
