Positive intel triggered Brisbane’s swoop for Lyons

2018-11-01T15:40+11:00

Brisbane CEO Greg Swann says positive feedback from members of the club’s hierarchy was crucial before swooping on delisted Gold Coast midfielder Jarryd Lyons.

Lions’ List Manager Dom Ambrogio and GM of Football David Noble – who previously worked for the Suns and Adelaide respectively – both know Lyons from his time at his two former clubs.

“We probably had an advantage because Dom (Ambrogio), who is our List Manager, was at the Suns when they brought him up, so he had a good knowledge of him and David Noble knew him from his days at Adelaide,” Swann told SEN Afternoons.

“They spoke really highly of him, not only as a player, but as a person.

“That was one of the things were attracted to and he fits into that age demographic that we have been a bit light on.”

Swann believes the 26-year-old will deepen Brisbane’s midfield stocks after losing Dayne Beams to Collingwood at the end of the trade period.

“It was a good result for us, we’re really rapt to get Jarryd,” Swann added.

“We think he’s a good player and he’s going to complement what we’ve got in the middle with Lachie (Neale) and some of the young blokes – Jarrod Berry and Rhys Mathieson, Zorks (Dayne Zorko) who will all go through the middle of the ground.

“We think we’ve built some pretty good depth there, to get him for nothing is a good get for us.”

Lyons penned a three-year deal with the Lions.
