Which clubs won big with the 2019 AFL fixture?

2018-11-01T12:32+11:00

The AFL has revealed the details of the fixture for the 2019 season, with a clear focus being put on Friday as a marquee slot. Some clubs have been removed from the spotlight, while others have been given a more favourable draw.

Collingwood appear to be a clear winner when it comes to scheduling and big, prime-time games - the Pies play seven games on Friday nights, along with two Thursday matches, and their traditional Queen's Birthday and ANZAC Day games.

Essendon also has been thrust into the limelight on the back of an attractive brand of footy and some exciting recruits - last year bringing in Jake Stringer, Adam Saad and Devon Smith and adding Dylan Shiel in the 2018 trade period. The Dons play two Thursday games and four Fridays, along with ANZAC Day and now Good Friday.

The Tigers will also play a good share of Thursday and Friday games - three of each - as well as ANZAC Eve and the Dreamtime at the 'G game.

The Sydney Swans and Melbourne Demons also feature heavily in marquee matches and prime timeslots, with the perennial finalists from the Harbour city playing five Friday night games, and the Demons scheduled for three Friday night matches, one Thursday, ANZAC Eve and Queen's Birthday.

The Gold Coast Suns and St Kilda Saints have not been fixtured on any Thursday or Friday nights, nor have the Dockers, whose only marquee match will be the Western Derby.
