Williams backs “diligent” RV to investigate The Cliffsofmoher’s death

2018-11-08T16:24+11:00

Owner of The Cliffsofmoher, Nick Williams, is confident Racing Victoria will undertake a thorough investigation into the death of the horse during Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.

The Irish galloper had to be euthanised after sustaining a serious shoulder injury early in the 3200m race, unfortunately becoming the sixth Cup fatility since 2013.

Williams has hit back at some of the negative commentary surrounding Racing Victoria’s handling of the incident while giving the sports governing body his full backing.

“It's unfortunate that some people in this instance, highlighted by The Cliffsofmoher, want to make rash comments,” Williams told SEN’s Whateley.

“It needs to be properly investigated and work out what the issue is.

“The only thing I can assure all the people out there about, is that Racing Victoria are very, very dedicated to horse integrity.

WHATELEY: WHY I'D CALL FOR INDEPENDENT INQUIRY INTO MELBOURNE CUP DEATHS

“There are not many people who have been more critical about Racing Victoria on a number of matters than me, but I can assure you in this situation and on this matter, they’re extraordinarily diligent and we’re very fortunate to have a governing body that actually do take these matters so seriously.

“In my view, there is nothing more important.”
