Swans GM responds to "predictable" claims

2018-11-15T16:54+11:00

Sydney GM of Football Tom Harley doesn’t believe having an element of predictability is a weakness following comments from former St Kilda and North Melbourne midfielder Nick Dal Santo.

Speaking on SEN Afternoons, Dal Santo said the Swans are too set in their ways and cannot win next year’s premiership with their current philosophy and playing style.

“I think it’s always important to have a strong DNA at your footy club, we think we’ve got that,” Harley told SEN’s Time On.

“Predictability I can understand that some people might think that could be an Achilles heel, but it can also be a great strength.

“If you look over time the really great clubs that have had sustained success have had a high element of predictability about them, the team themselves know what they’re doing but also the opposition have.

“I wouldn’t see that as criticism, it’s not one to respond to at this point in time.

“We’ll continue to focus on the things that we want to stand for as a footy club and we’ve certainly got non-negotiables with the way we go about our football - if that’s predictable then so be it.”

Sydney have added Jackson Thurlow and Daniel Menzel from Geelong and Ryan Clarke from North Melbourne during the off-season.
