Champion Australian equestrian rider Andrew Hoy has revealed he plans on competing in his eighth Summer Olympic Games.
Hoy says the quality of horses coming through means he has a good chance of adding to his three Olympic gold medals and one silver medal in Tokyo in 2020.
“It is definitely on the plan,” Hoy told This Is Your Sporting Life.
“When I say it’s on the plan, I have the best horse power I believe that I’ve ever had, the best number of horses coming on that I’ve ever had in my career and that is something that is very special.
“I’ve just come back from the World Championships riding in America eight weeks ago, I actually finished fourth with a horse that has only just started his international career at the top level and he’s nine years of age.
“January 1 is the horse’s birthday in the Northern Hemisphere, he will then become 10 and so he’s got longevity in the sport, he’s an athlete, I’m an athlete and the important thing is we stay sound.
“If we have the performances and we are both sound and healthy, I think there’s a very strong chance I’ll be in Tokyo.”
