Have Saints secured a first-round talent at pick 41?

2018-11-30T08:03+11:00

St Kilda draftee Jack Bytel could be a steal at pick 41 if he is able to get his bulging disc injury corrected, according to former Saints coach Tim Watson.

The serious health concerns saw Bytel fall in last week’s AFL draft, but Watson has explained how he has traits similar to Luke Power and Nick Dal Santo.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“I looked at this kid who I didn’t know much about, Jack Bytel, and he went pick 41,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.

“His highlights popped up, so I thought, I’ll sit and watch this and see what this kid is like. I’m thinking, he looks good, I know in the highlights package you can look good, but what he was doing in traffic, I thought, why did he slip to 41?

“I rang somebody who knows this caper really well and he said, that kid would have been a first round pick but he has had problems with a bulging disc in his back.

“He said if he comes good and they get him right, then St Kilda will have themselves a very fine midfielder.

“Think a cross between Luke Power and a Nick Dal Santo type inside player, who kicks as well on his right leg as he does his left.”
