AFL football operations manager Steve Hocking says there will be changes to AFLX after reviewing the inaugural season of the modified competition.
Following mixed results in the first edition of the pre-season tournament, Hocking stated alterations to the hybrid game will be revealed in the middle of December.
“We’re a fair way down the path as far as AFLX goes,” Hocking told SEN’s Whateley.
“We think we’ve reviewed last year, we’ve considered the changes that need to be made around rules and so forth, and also what the concept needs to look like second time around.
“It’ll be set up for young kids and families, that’s what we’re working towards - we’ll definitely have something in place by the middle of December.”
Hocking also revealed that the league’s hierarchy have spoken to a number of high-profile players regarding a revamped all-star format.
“We’re talking to those captains at the moment and we think we’ll have most of that confirmed in December, but it’s completely different to what we launched last year,” Hocking added.
“We think the fans will get excited by it and if we sort of think about where football sits and where you learn to play the game and that’s in the schoolyard and with your mates - it’s going to be reflective in this."
Hocking remains confident that AFLX will be worth the investment in the long-term.
