The challenge facing Finch against Indian pace attack

2018-12-03T12:59+11:00

Veteran batsman Cameron White says combating the inswinging delivery will be crucial if Aaron Finch is to enjoy a fruitful Test series against India.

Finch, 32, is tipped to partner the uncapped Marcus Harris at the top of the order for Australia in the series opener in Adelaide, despite usually batting in the middle order at Sheffield Shield level for the Victoria.

White believes his Victorian teammate has the skill to adapt and cope with whatever the Indian pace attack can conjure up.

“It was interesting watching the debate on social media last week about where he should be batting for Victoria, when he was picked for Victoria having been batting in the middle order," White told SEN's Whateley.

“It’ll be a big challenge for him. I think the type of bowler that India are bringing out here like (Ishant) Sharma, (Mohammed Shami) and (Bhuvneshwar) Kumar – I think they can all bring the ball back into right-handed batter which is going to be a big challenge for Finchy.

“It’s not so good in a matchup sense, he’ll obviously be aware of that, he’s a smart player.

“I’m sure he’ll combat that and do a good job.”

Finch debuted in the recent series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, scoring 181 runs from four innings at an average of 45.

The first Test of the summer gets underway on December 6th at the Adelaide Oval and you can catch all the action live on 1116SEN.
