How McGovern tried to persuade wantaway brother to West Coast

2018-12-05T17:31+11:00

West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern has revealed he tried to persuade his brother Mitch to join him at the reigning premiers.

McGovern, 24, requested a move away from his former club Adelaide with Carlton winning the race for the forward’s signature during the trade period.

With both the McGoverns hailing from Claremont in Western Australia, the premiership Eagle did all he could to convince his younger sibling to return back his native state.

“We had a few discussions,” McGovern told SEN.

“I was in his ear trying to get him here and I’ve always wanted to play with him.

“But at the end of the day I always told him it was his decision and he can do what he wants.

“I spoke to him recently and he seems pretty happy over there so as long as the little brother is happy, I’m happy as well.

“You never know maybe down the track we might be able to have a kick together.”

McGovern joined the Blues after playing 48 games and booting 67 goals for the Crows.
