Kohli hit 115 in the first innings to become the fourth Indian to score a hundred on Test captaincy debut, before following that up with a masterful second innings knock of 141.
The tourists fell 48 runs short chasing a mammoth fourth innings total of 364 after being 2/242 at one stage.
Despite the 2-0 series defeat, Kohli scored an astonishing 692 runs in eight innings at an average 86.50, including four centuries.
