“He’s a bit of a father figure”: Pies mid praises Beams’ influence

2018-12-07T16:32+11:00

Collingwood midfielder Tom Phillips has praised the impact new recruit Dayne Beams has made in his second stint as a Pie.

Beams sealed his return to the Magpies on deadline day of the trade period and will significantly bolster what was an already star-studded midfield group.

Phillips says the 28-year-old’s professionalism and dedication to his craft has shone through early in the pre-season.

“He’s been great to have back – he’s a bit of a father figure now for us,” Phillips told SEN Breakfast.

“It’s great to have another senior body and senior leader around the footy club, especially a bloke that’s been to the top with a premiership and all his accolades.

“It’s great to have a guy of his calibre back in the back and white. He’s brought great energy and he’s just a great bloke to have around.

“I think he was back early and you can see the way he goes about it – it’s pretty professional.”

As well as Beams, Collingwood landed Western Bulldogs utility Jordan Roughead as they look to go one better in 2019 after losing to West Coast by five points in last season’s Grand Final.
