Carlton head of football Brad Lloyd has all but ruled out his side’s reported pursuit of retired Bomber Brendon Goddard.
Many have floated Goddard as someone who could replace injured co-captain Sam Docherty, who is set to miss the 2019 season after tearing his ACL.
Lloyd said former St Kilda star Goddard was not currently in their thinking.
“No, not at this point with Brendon,” Lloyd told SEN Evenings.
“I know Brendon, he’s a quality player and a quality person, but not at this point in time.”
Lloyd added the Blues will consider finding a replacement player from around the state leagues.
“We held back a spot with the new rules where you can replace a player early in the year,” he said.
“You can look at players inside your list or outside your list as well, we haven’t gone into detail yet, but we’ll sit down and work out what our options are as a football club.
“I think everyone club across Australia is aware if they play well there’ll be clubs like ours and others that’ll be looking to list them.
“Sam is still co-captain of the footy club and he’ll still play a strong leadership role and still contribute.”
