Goddard set to pursue coaching or General Manager role

2018-12-11T17:12+11:00

Retired Essendon and St Kilda defender Brendon Goddard wants to get back involved with footy in a behind the scenes or coaching capacity.

Goddard said after some much needed time away, he would like to get back into footy in an administrative capacity.

“My thoughts are to get away from footy and the footy bubble with the intent to do some study around the management side of things,” Goddard told SEN Evenings.

“That’s with the idea to potentially get back into footy whether that be coaching or set a career path in that GM of Football side of it, the footy side of it, the politics and the management side of it.”

Fellow ex-Saint Nick Dal Santo touted the possibility of Goddard joining Carlton to replace injured captain Sam Docherty, but Goddard said he wasn’t even aware a rule that allowed him to do so existed.

“I wasn’t actually privy to there being a rule that would allow me to continue the AFL career up until March, I actually wasn’t privy to it until someone brought it up after this devastating injury to Sam (Docherty),” he said.

“I haven’t had time to really think about it because I didn’t know there was a rule.”

Carlton General Manager of Football Brad Lloyd told SEN Evenings the club likely wouldn’t be considering Goddard.
