Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon destroyed India’s batting line-up on day one of the second Test in Bengaluru, finishing with stunning figures of 8/50 from 22.2 overs.
Lyon’s haul is the best of any bowler to tour India and the sixth-best figures by an Australian in Test history.
After the hosts won the toss and elected to bat, Lyon claimed the big scalps of Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli, before running through the middle and lower order to trigger a spectacular collapse by the Indians.
Despite Lyon’s heroics, Australia would end up losing the Test by 75 runs after capitulating in their second innings in pursuit of India’s score of 188.
Lyon has catapulted up the all-time Australian wicket-taking list to now sit fourth on 326 wickets, behind Dennis Lillee (355), Glenn McGrath (563) and Shane Warne (708).
