Blakey wants to crack into Swans best 22 "as early as possible"

2018-12-13T19:19+11:00

Sydney academy selection Nick Blakey wants to have an immediate impact for the Swans.

A team spearheaded by Lance Franklin, Sydney has occasionally fallen into a habit of being too Buddy-focused inside 50 and the addition of Blakey could help to give them another avenue to goal.

Blakey said playing in the forward line is where he feels he does his best work.

“I think it’ll definitely be in the forward line somewhere whether it’s at AFL or NEAFL level,” Blakey told SEN Evenings.

“I guess football as of late has been up forward, that’s where I’ve been playing. That’s probably where I’m most comfortable.”

The 195cm young star wants to find his position in the senior team as soon as he can.

“I do want to crack into the senior team as soon as possible, but that’s probably the same as every first-year player,” he said.

“Whether I’m playing senior footy or NEAFL footy I’ll try to find my spot and crack into the team as early as possible.”

Blakey was taken at pick 10 by the Swans after nominating them as his team of choice.

He had the option to nominate North Melbourne or Brisbane under the father-son rule.
