Wallace names the biggest changes to the AFL over the last 40 years

2018-12-13T18:18+11:00

After 40 years involved with the AFL, Terry Wallace has seen and analysed almost all there is in the game.

In a series of articles talking about the best players he’s ever seen, best teams and biggest moments, Wallace starts with what he feels is the biggest change to the game in those 40 years.

“I thought the flexible fixture (was the biggest change),” Wallace told SEN Evenings.

“So, I can remember in the early days when I got to Hawthorn, we had a player team meeting where we were going to go on strike because we were asked to play Sunday football.

“Sunday was our only day off, so I thought the change when Sunday footy came in, Friday night footy obviously and we’ve got that flexibility of having games virtually right across so you can see every game.

“Then obviously the end of the tribal suburban grounds was during that period and the national competition.

“I think they’re the three biggest changes I’ve seen over the 40 years.”

Stay tuned for more of Wallace’s big calls!
