Will the extra games hurt the 2018/19 Big Bash season?

2018-12-17T09:56+11:00

Is the Big Bash League season now too long?

The 2018/19 season will be 59 matches long, 16 more than last season and running 13 days longer than ever before.

Former Melbourne Stars captain John Hastings has his concerns.

“There’s some points that need to be raised and I think the length of the competition, I don’t think it should’ve gone to an extra four games per team this year,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“We need to really consolidate our membership bases and keep our fans happy and keep it consistent and keep the cricket and people wanting more.

“It adds on an extra three or four weeks.”

Stars spinner Adam Zampa is also unsure whether the extended season will work.

“I think the biggest change this year is the Big Bash is a lot longer,” Zampa told SEN Mornings.

“A lot of people will agree or disagree with it, I’m not sure where I sit with it at the moment.

“The thing is, I love Big Bash and the more games of Big Bash we play, the better, but I don’t really think we needed to fix what wasn’t broken.

“I used to like playing eight to 10 games a season because you knew you had to win straight away because the season was so short and the games became intense.

“I’m just worried that might ruin it with the 14 games.”
