How long did it take for Lycett to decide to leave the Eagles?

2018-12-23T12:57+11:00

New Port Adelaide recruit Scott Lycett has revealed he became aware of interest from other clubs half way through the 2018 season, but didn’t decide to join the Power until well after the Grand Final.

Lycett earned a premiership medallion with West Coast before joining Port as a free agent in the trade period.

The ruckman said his premiership celebrations were ongoing and he still hadn’t made up his mind.

“My manager told me a few clubs that were interested in me about half way through the year,” Lycett told SEN Evenings.

“The season before I’d only played the one game and I knew I had to play some good footy and assess where I was at as far as my value.

“I had to decide pretty quickly. I was still in doubt throughout the celebrations and stuff, it was really difficult.

“I’m content with the decision and all the people at West Coast I have the utmost admiration for those guys.”

Lycett added his Eagles teammates started signing the Port Adelaide theme at him. “It was interesting, all the boys, started singing the Port Power theme song,” he said.

“It was pretty funny when you’ve got about 30 blokes yelling it at you!”

Lycett signed a five-year deal with Port Adelaide reportedly worth $3 million.
