Cricket Australia CEO looking to give “maximum respect” to Sheffield Shield

2019-01-04T10:12+11:00

Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts says he is passionate about ensuring the Sheffield Shield competition becomes a nursery for the international teams.

Many believe Cricket Australia has dismissed the Sheffield Shield over the past few years, and Roberts is looking to reverse that trend.

“One of the things we really need to look at, and that I’m passionate about is, how do we give maximum respect to the domestic competition as a foundation for our international teams, both male and female,” Roberts told SEN Test Cricket.

“Making sure our national programs complement our domestic competitions, rather than colliding with them.

“That’s not necessarily easy, but at the same time, I think we can really elevate the focus on our domestic competitions and ensure they’re the best nursery for international players.”

Roberts said this will be a change of mindset “to some degree”, but not a complete backflip from Cricket Australia’s previous regime.

The CEO added they will assess everything in the cricket system, as their overhaul continues, after the fallout from the ball tampering saga.
