Report: Will Pucovski set for shock Test call-up

2019-01-09T11:50+11:00

Promising Victorian batsman Will Pucovski is set for a shock call-up to Australia’s Test squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Pucovski’s inclusion is part of a major shake-up of Australia’s batting line-up with Shaun and Mitch Marsh expected to be omitted from the squad for the two-Test series.

Opener Aaron Finch is also expected to be overlooked after being dropped for the fourth Test against India in Sydney.

The 20-year-old has risen to prominence after a superb start to his first-class career, averaging 49 from his eight Sheffield Shield games with two centuries – 188 against Queensland and a career-best 243 against Western Australia in October last year.

After taking an indefinite break from cricket due to a mental-health related illness, Pucovski returned to play the final Sheffield Shield game of 2018, scoring 67 in his return match.

Chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns will front the media this afternoon to announce Australia’s squad for the Test series against the Sri Lankans.

The first Test gets underway in Brisbane on January 24th at the Gabba.
