Hawthorn has confirmed reports from earlier this morning that Brownlow Medallist Tom Mitchell has broken his leg.
The reigning Brownlow Medallist has been taken to hospital with an ambulance seen at Waverley Park earlier this morning.
He reportedly got hurt in a tackling drill and it was the first session back after the Christmas break.
The Hawks suspect that Mitchell will miss the 2019 season.
Hawthorn GM of footy Graham Wright gave an update.
“He will undergo surgery over the weekend and as a result will most likely miss the 2019 season," he told the Hawthorn website.
“However, Tom is a very resilient young man and we have no doubt that he will tackle his rehab with the same professionalism and diligence with which he approaches his training.”

"They were doing some clearance work & he went down around half forward. The training staff were holding his leg, immobilising it. When the Ambulance arrived it was pretty grim. The whole playing group went silent."
