Tomic faces an uphill battle, taking on Marin Cilic, the number six seed.
Matthew Ebden, Ellez Perry, Jordan Thompson and John Millman will also represent the Aussies among others.
Maria Sharapova will open the tournament on Rod Laver Arena, taking on Harriet Dart.
