Essendon provide Daniher fitness update

2019-01-17T16:17+11:00

Essendon are still unsure as to when star forward Joe Daniher will return to full training as he continues to recover from a groin injury he sustained last season.

Daniher has started to increase his training volume but has still yet to join in with the club’s main group during their pre-season schedule.

Bombers Physical Performance Manager, Justin Crow, has yet to name a specific return date for the 24-year-old.

"Apart from a small interruption with his viral conjunctivitis – a systemic illness that can knock you around a little bit – he's had a really solid month of training," Crow told Essendon’s website.

"In that time, he's built up to be able to do an 11km session next week. We're really happy with the volume he’s getting in, and he’s starting to do a lot more football movements.

"What we need to start to work on is his top speed and getting him back into training drills, which we'll do when he’s ready."

Daniher played the opening seven games last season before being ruled out indefinitely and ultimately missing the remainder of the 2018 campaign.
