The Socceroos have advanced to the quarter finals of the Asian Cup, after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Uzbekistan.
Mat Ryan saved two of Uzbekistan’s penalties in the shootout, with Islom Tukhthakhujaev and Marat Bikmaev unable to get past Australia’s keeper.

Mathew Leckie also came up big for the Socceroos, with the substitute scoring the winning goal. Mark Milligan, Robbie Kruse and Apostolos Giannou also scored for the defending champions, while Aziz Behich couldn’t convert his penalty.
The match finished 0-0 after 120 minutes, with Australia controlling the possession battle, having the football for 60.7 percent of the game.

Star Tom Rogic will miss the Socceroos’ quarter final clash after receiving his second yellow card of the tournament.
Australia will face the UAE in the quarter final at 3:00am AEDT on Saturday January 26.
