Tiger fit and ready to roar

2019-01-23T10:24+11:00

Tiger Woods has revealed he has greater expectations in 2019 than he did last year, as the 14-time Major winner prepares to tee up for the first time this year at the Farmers Insurance Open – an event he has won seven times.

Speaking at a pre-tournament press conference, Woods, who this time last year was coming off fresh spinal fusion surgery, said his body is in great physical condition, giving him the confidence that he can win his first Major since the 2008 US Open.

"[My expectations] are way different, I know what my body can and cannot do," said Woods.

"Last year was very fluid… it was like trying to hit a moving target. It was quite interesting to try and figure it all out as the year progressed and it evolved.

"This year I have a greater understanding of what I can and can't do. There's not that uncertainty that I had going into the year last year."

Now 43, Woods hasn't played on the PGA Tour since September, where he capped a remarkable comeback by winning the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Since then, the 'Big Beast' has been working hard to get himself in shape.

"The off-season for me, a lot of it's been training, trying to get stronger," Woods said.

"Last year, towards the end of the season, I got really tired because I didn’t expect to play that much golf at the end and I didn’t train for it.

"This off-season, I spent a lot of time in the gym and I've gotten a lot stronger. I feel like my legs are there where they need to be, and they weren’t at the end of the season."
