Djokovic wins record seventh Australian Open in dominant fashion

2019-01-27T21:52+11:00

World number one Novak Djokovic has claimed his seventh Australian Open title, the first man to ever to do so.

And this one was his most dominant yet.

The 31-year-old was far too good and got the job done in clinical fashion – 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.

He only made nine unforced errors total, compared to his opponent’s 28. Nadal had one break point all night.

Djokovic was in full control early, holding his serve to love on three occasions, while Nadal looked sluggish.

He would take the first set 6-3 and appeared to have everything in full control.

Nothing changed in the second set, with Djokovic once again breaking Nadal twice on his way to a 6-2 finish.

Nadal had no answers as the world number one continued to stay on the front foot and put pressure on his opponent.

Djokovic delivered the killer blow early in the third, breaking Nadal and cruising to victory from there.

Last night's women’s final was a narrative-filled roller-coaster of exhilarating tennis. Tonight was simply a one-sided clobbering.

Djokovic came into the tournament as the clear favourite and the Serb lived up to the expectations, hoisting his seventh Australian Open trophy.
