The Power have confirmed Wines suffered the injury while water skiing on Saturday afternoon.
He will go for scans to determine the severity of the injury, but Cornes tweeted the damage was "significant".
The former Port Adelaide midfielder said earlier in the week Wines, alongside Tom Jonas was set to be announced as the club’s new captain.
This comes after Travis Boak stood down from the role late last year.
