Brisbane CEO Greg Swann said he and his team parted “on good terms” with former captain Dayne Beams.
Beams, after publicly stating he was staying at the Lions multiple times, ended up requesting a trade to Collingwood.
The Lions ended up receiving pick 18, pick 56 and a future first rounder from the Pies for the 28-year-old and a pair of picks in the 40s.
“He spoke to us during the trade period, yeah. We’ve all left on good terms,” Swann told SEN Breakfast.
“We wished he’d stayed, but he made the choice to go and I think that was pretty well documented why so we thought we got a reasonable deal for him.
“In the end everyone hopefully has a win from it so there’s no bitterness there.
“They (Beams and Lachie Neale) are different players, but they’re both massive ball winners.”
The Lions lured two-time Fremantle best and fairest winner Neale and are hoping he can fill the hole left by Beams.
“From our point of view, Lachie’s only 25 so we think we’ve got quite a few years of good footy from Lachie,” Swann said.
“We think he’s going to be massive for us over the next few years.”
