Lions are sick of missing finals declares CEO

2019-01-31T10:10+11:00

Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann has declared the club is sick of missing the finals and plan to arrest that trend in 2019.

The Lions haven’t tasted September action since 2009, but have attracted some pre-season hype due to a slew of young talent and solid veterans.

Swann hopes this mixture can help finals football return to Brisbane.

“We have been talked up a little bit but we have some really exciting young blokes as well and those guys who come in and help,” Swann told SEN Breakfast.

“All the guys are really fit and have taken control of where we are going.

“We are a bit sick of not making it, we haven’t played finals since 2009.

“We want to get out of the lower depth and get back up into the finals challengers and see where we are at.

“We think the comp is really even, so we need a little bit of luck with injuries, get off to a good start and see what happens.

“We thought our back half of the year last year was pretty good.

“We pushed a lot of good teams, we beat some teams who are in the finals that we haven’t done for a while, so we just need to build on that.”

The Lions begin their 2019 campaign on March 23 against reigning premiers West Coast.
