Whateley making Super Bowl waves in the States

2019-01-31T11:50+11:00

Last year, SEN’s chief broadcaster Gerard Whateley was the first Australian to call a Super Bowl on the radio.

Less than two weeks after beginning with SEN in January 2018, Whateley covered the underdog win of the Philadelphia Eagles over NFL powerhouse the New England Patriots in Minneapolis.

Whateley’s broadcast made waves among the US media, with his description of Tom Brady laying “bereft on the turf” even managing to find its way onto a t-shirt.

“The script is flipped” also rang out across the American sporting landscape.

In the lead-up to Super Bowl 53 between the Patriots and the LA Rams in Atlanta, popular American sports and culture website ‘The Ringer’ have featured Whateley ahead of his second call of sport’s greatest show.

Check out the article here.

Whateley will be joined by Larry Fitzgerald Snr to call Super Bowl 53 from 9am Monday, February 4 on 1116SEN.
