Lycett: Power rallying around embattled Watts

2019-02-05T10:22+11:00

Port Adelaide recruit Scott Lycett has provided an insight into life at the Power in the midst of investigations surrounding Jack Watts.

A video emerged of the former number one draft pick snorting a white substance at Oktoberfest last year, but he has denied that the substance is illegal.

West Coast premiership ruckman Lycett says Watts is feeling pretty down following the release of the video.

“He (Jack Watts) was very disappointed,” Lycett told SEN SA Breakfast.

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect of Wattsy coming over, not knowing him, but he’s really out there, really talkative kind of guy and loves getting the boys up and about.

“But you could just tell yesterday he was really disappointed.”

Despite the setback, Lycett says the Power players fully support Watts.

“The players are a little bit disappointed with him as well but we’ve got his back,” he said.

“Hopefully we can just put our arms around him and hopefully he’ll put this behind him and make sure he has a good year.”

The former Eagle knows about the dangers of the current digital age, but says this situation is an opportunity for current players to be vigilant.

“You do learn from a young age,” Lycett said.

“You get people from the AFL and AFLPA come out and teach the young guys, not just about that but about all aspects of life really.

“Although it’s unfortunate to be at Port Adelaide, it’s just a healthy reminder to everyone that you always have eyes on you.

“That’s just a part of playing AFL and if you can’t handle that then I guess it’s not for you.”

Port Adelaide take on Melbourne in their season opener at the MCG on March 23rd.
