Why Lyon is concerned with Hannebery's injury setback

2019-02-11T08:21+11:00

Prized St Kilda recruit Dan Hannebery has suffered a hamstring setback according to Channel Seven’s Tom Browne.

The midfielder is reportedly set for a month on the sidelines with what was described as a mild tear.

Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon believes it’s concerning given Hannebery’s run with injuries in recent times.

“Given the history of Dan over the last couple of years, and given his game is based on the ability to run and run and run, when you’re having four weeks off your legs at this time of year, I think that’s some sort of an issue,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“Unless you’re at the coalface you can’t know, but from afar, that would be a concern for me.

“He hasn’t been able to play consistently for two years, St Kilda’s paying him big coin to get him to the footy club and he’s now going to have a month away and we’re only a month away from the JLT Series.”

Hannebery played 15 games last year and appeared below his best, averaging only 18.7 disposals, down from 24.7 the year before and 30.9 in 2016.
