Craig Foster has taken a swipe at Football Federation Australia, describing the election process to secure a seat on the board as a “farce”.
The former Socceroo and SBS commentator cited the “disgusting” lack of ethics as the reason why he decided to withdraw his nomination to join and chair the FFA board in November last year.
“What I do know is that the game has a serious culture problem,” Foster told SEN Breakfast.
“I ran in the recent election and it’s just a mess – the election was a farce. The lack of ethics involved there was disgusting and that’s why I pulled out.
“In the end, we need to have a really serious look at ourselves.”
Foster has also called for an independent inquiry into the shock sacking of former Matildas coach Alen Stajcic.
“While I’m not across all the facts, what I’d say is that we need an independent investigation right now to work out exactly what has occurred, to make sure everyone has conducted themselves appropriately,” he added.
“We really need to turn around as a sport and start talking about our values and principals and everyone acting in the right manner.”
