AFL goal milestones: All the 2019 possibilities

2019-02-16T17:15+11:00

There is the possibility for a number of goal milestones in the AFL in 2019.

So often we focus our attention on games records but there are plenty of interesting goals records that could pop up this year.

Adelaide

Taylor Walker (383) needs a decent 2019 if he is to become Adelaide’s all-time leading goal kicker. Tony Modra holds that mantle with 440, so the current skipper needs 58 to bypass him.

Both Josh Jenkins (274) and Eddie Betts (273 Adelaide only) will move into the top four at the Crows. Andrew McLeod currently sits fourth (275) and Mark Ricciuto third (292) so they need just 19 and 20 goals respectively to become the third and fourth highest Crows goal kickers.

Essendon

Joe Daniher (181) needs 19 goals to notch 200.

Fremantle

Michael Walters (221) needs just four goals to replace Jeff Farmer (224) in third position on the Dockers’ all-time list.

Walters is currently 32 goals behind Hayden Ballantyne who has the second most Freo goals.

Aaron Sandilands (98) needs just two to bring up 100 goals.

Geelong

Tom Hawkins (498) needs just two goals to notch 500 which will make him just the third player to reach that mark with the Cats behind Gary Ablett Snr and Doug Wade.

Gary Ablett Jnr (278) requires 22 goals for 300 in the blue and white hoops.

Gold Coast

GWS Giants

Jeremy Cameron (327) has 23 goals to go until he reaches 350.

Toby Greene (139) requires 11 to become just the second Giant to 150. Jon Patton (130) can also move to 150 if he can return from injury and kick 20.

Hawthorn

Jarryd Roughead (563) needs 18 goals to overtake Franklin (580) at number five on Hawthorn’s all-time list.

Luke Breust (358) has to kick 26 to move into ninth at the Hawks.

If Paul Puopolo (171) can slot 29 he will bring up goal 200.

Melbourne

Jeff Garlett (129) requires 21 goals to reach 150.

North Melbourne

Ben Brown (215) has to kick only 14 goals to move into North’s top 20.

If he can replicate his last two seasons and reach the 60-goal mark, he will rocket into 16th or 15th.

Jack Ziebell (138) has 12 to go for 150.

Port Adelaide

Robbie Gray (294) has six goals left to reach 300, becoming just the second Power player to do so behind Warren Tredrea.

Justin Westhoff (291) needs nine to become the third into 150.

Richmond

Jack Riewoldt’s (607) first goal of 2019 will see him move to outright fourth on Richmond’s all-time list.

He currently shares that spot with Michael Roach on 607.

Dustin Martin (218) has 12 goals to go in order to replace Tigers footy boss Neil Balme (229) in 14th place at Tigerland.

St Kilda

Josh Bruce (132) requires 18 goals to bring up 150 for the Saints, and 15 more for 150 overall after kicking three for GWS.

Sydney

Lance Franklin (917 overall) has 10 more goals to pass Matthew Lloyd (926) and move into seventh place on the all-time career goals list.

If he can kick 54 for the season, he’ll bypass Richmond’s Jack Titus (970) and move to sixth.

Buddy (337 for Sydney) needs at least 49 to replace Ted Johnson in eighth position on the all-time Swans list and if he kicks 61 he’ll go seventh ahead of Tony Morwood.

Luke Parker (142) needs only eight for 150.

West Coast

Jack Darling (319) has 31 goals until he reaches 350, meaning he will be just the fifth player to do so with the Eagles.

Jamie Cripps (165) requires 35 goals to move to 200 for the Eagles and just 16 more to notch 200 AFL goals, after snagging 16 for St Kilda.

Luke Shuey (128) needs 22 to make it to 150.
