Port Adelaide coach: Watts wants to be a “good person”

2019-02-17T13:00+11:00

Ken Hinkley has urged Jack Watts to become a better and more reliable person.

In the wake of the online video which shows Watts snorting a white substance off a woman at Oktoberfest, Port Adelaide coach Hinkley has put the acid on the talented forward.

"Jack's got to become a more reliable person. He would say that himself, without me talking for Jack," Hinkley told AFL.com.au.

"Being a good person is really important to anyone.

"Jack would sit there and say some of his behaviour is not a mirror image of a good person and he wants to be a good person."

Hinkley is well aware of the talent the 27-year-old former number one draft pick possesses but it means nothing without application, hard work and completely eliminating such off-field misdemeanours.

He added: “I’m prepared to say 'Jack, this is part of your past and I'm sure there are other things in your past that you're probably not super excited by, but let's work towards what your future is going to look like. And that the Jack Watts that has some experiences of life now doesn't let those same things happen'."

Watts struggled in his first season with the Power last year after crossing from Melbourne, kicking 18 goals in 19 games and averaging 14 disposals and 4.5 marks.
