Collingwood’s Will Hoskin-Elliott will have surgery on Monday, according to The Age.
The 25-year-old forward will have a procedure on his iliotibial band (ITB) which is expected to sideline him for a few weeks.
It is understood that this type of operation performed on the outside of the leg usually takes athletes four-to-six weeks to recover from.
Regardless of recovery time, Hoskin-Elliott is in doubt for the beginning of the 2019 season.
"It's a little ITB procedure. It will put him on the sidelines for a couple of weeks," said Magpies football manager Geoff Walsh said.
"It's a bit like Jordy (De Goey) the other day. We will see how he (Hoskin-Elliott) goes after surgery and keep him off his foot for seven to 10 days."
Former GWS Giant Hoskin-Elliott enjoyed a stellar season in 2018, kicking 42 goals as the Pies reached the Grand Final.
