Essendon premiership player Tim Watson has questioned the talk surrounding Jarryn Geary’s strong feedback for Alan Richardson as part of a US leadership program
As reported in the Herald Sun, Richardson revealed Geary told him the coach needs to focus on giving more positive feedback, rather than focusing on what the playing group can’t do.
Watson, however, wonders how it took a trip to America for these truths to come out between coach and captain.
“How is it Jarryn Geary, the captain of St Kilda, hasn’t said to his coach previously what he wrote in that envelope that Richardson had to go all the way to America to find out,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.
“To be totally honest, and I’m all for people going overseas and up-skilling, but is that the most important thing you got out of that? That you’re not positive enough with your players?
“I’m sure there was more and that was what was pointed out in the article so that might be misrepresented, but that was the thing that stood out?”
Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon agreed.
He said: “That’s exactly what I thought. Why hadn’t the captain said that to the coach?
“Just say mate, stop looking at what we can’t do and start looking at what we can do.
“Do you have to go to American to get this feedback?"
